Ecomatic Salt Water Sanitizing Systems

Ecomatic Salt Water Systems

by
Balboa Controls

The Ecomatic saltwater chlorination system has been a consistent performer for several years.  It was recently bought out by Balboa Instruments.  This has traditionally been our best-seller and top performer.

  • Excellent Record of Dependability

  • Self Cleaning - Automatic Reversing Cycles

  • Clear Cell Body - easy to remove element

  • Easy to Read Controls

  • Winter Mode for Extended Cell Life

  • Digital Readout of System Performance

  • Diagnostic LED's for Easy Maintenance

What makes the Ecomatic system unique?

1.  Superior Cell Quality

The Ecomatic system has one of the most dependable cells available.  The cell is the most expensive part of the salt system and also the part that is most prone to failure, if not manufactured to the highest standards.  The Ecomatic cell has had an excellent record and we know of only one possible failure in all of the units we have sold.

The Ecomatic cell is clear, so you can inspect the cell without removing it from the system.  You can also see when it is making chlorine.  Water enters one end of the cell clear and exits the other end of the cell slightly cloudy, a result of the chlorine and sodium hydroxide that is being produced.  By the time the water reaches the pool, it is all mixed in and it comes out clear.

2.  Excellent Service Record

Equipment failures are extremely rare with the Ecomatic system.  This is probably because they have been making salt systems for over 25 years, and as they say, practice makes perfect.

3.  Ease of Installation and Service

The Ecomatic system requires just two plumbing connections (in and out of the cell) and an electrical connection to get it going.  Inspecting the cell is easy since the cell body is clear, so you do not even have to take it apart to see what is happening inside.  In the event you need to clean the cell, you simply remove the end cap and unscrew the element.  On the other systems, you have to unscrew two unions and remove the entire cell, casing and all.

How does the Ecomatic system work?

The System

The system creates a small amount of chlorine in the pool from the mild salt level that is in the pool.  When the chlorine is used, it turns back into salt, ready to turn into chlorine again.

The cell reverses its electrical polarity periodically to eliminate any scale buildup.

The Control Panel

The control box provides key information about the operation of the unit.  This allows the homeowner to know exactly what his happening with his salt system.

Control Panel Features

  • Digital Output Readout

  • Low Salt Warning

  • Winter Mode*

  • Scalable Production Setting

  • Diagnostic Lights

*Winter mode cuts the production down to 85% which can actually extend the life of the cell.

Converting a Pool to Salt

1.  Install the System

2.  Raise Salt to 3000 ppm

3.  Let the system do the work

In the case of a smaller (10,000 - 20,000 gallon) pools we recommend purchasing the ESC-36 and running it at a reduced level. By purchasing an oversized unit, you are able to run the cell at a lower output level and the cell life will be extended.

Technical Specifications

Size: For pools up to 40,000 Gallons ESC24 - Pools up to  20,000 gallons (115 v)

ESC36 - Pools up to 40,000 gallons (230v)

ESC-36 230 VAC, 60 Hz

ESC-24 115 VAC, 60 Hz

Output: 24 VDC @ 8 amps maximum

Salt Water Pool System FAQ's

Is this like swimming in the ocean?

No, the ocean has about 20,000 parts per million (ppm) of salt in the water, while a saltwater pool has only about 3000 parts per million salt.  At 3000 ppm, you generally cannot even taste the salt.  Any water under 6000 ppm is still considered fresh water. Your eye contains about 9000 ppm salt.

Is the pool water still blue?

Yes, since the salt water system creates chlorine, the water is still blue and also very clear.  A salt system gives your pool the best water quality you have ever seen.

Can I install it with my existing pool equipment?

Yes, since the water is still considered fresh water, it is compatible with all standard pool equipment (pumps, filters, heaters, poolsweeps, etc.)  If you have a stainless steel filter, check with the manufacturer.  To our knowledge, the newer Pentair Nautilus Stainless Steel filters are the only ones not compatible with salt systems.

Does this soften the pool water?

Yes, and this is another benefit of the salt system.  Many pool owners appreciate the soft feel of the water.

Where does the salt go?

We add granulated salt (looks a lot like table salt, but without any additives) to the pool according to manufacturers instructions.  Most manufacturers recommend pouring it into the deep end of the pool, but read your directions carefully.  The salt quickly dissolves in the pool water.

Will I save money?

The fact that you are not having to use packaged pool chlorine will save a significant amount of money in the long run.  The REAL REASON to go with a saltwater pool system is because of the fantastic water quality.  The money savings is just icing on the cake
